Integrated assessment of major element geochemistry and geological setting of traditional natural mineral water sources in South Korea at the national scale

•Natural mineral springs in a tectonically stable area have diverse water types.•CO2-rich and thermal waters are associated with Jurassic granitic rocks and faults.•CO2-rich water has variable mineralization and no relationships with thermal water.•F concentration is higher in thermal water and controlled by calcite precipitation.•Elevated Mg in CO2-rich water is derived from silicate mineral interactions.
