Nutritional and toxicity profiles of two species of land snail, Theba pisana and Otala lactea, from Morocco

•The nutritional potential of Theba pisana and Otala lactea species was evaluated.•Snail meat proved to be a dietary alternative to traditional meats.•Snail meat has a high protein content and low fat.•Snails consumption did not show a potential health risk due to contamination by toxic metals.•Pesticides were not detected in analyzed samples.
