Magnetron sputtering Al-Sc alloying layer gifts long cycle life for lithium metal batteries

Dendritic growth of lithium (Li) anodes during plating affects battery safety seriously. The lithiophilic alloys (Li-X alloys) were widely applied to guide the uniform deposition of Li+ and suppress dendritic Li formation. Herein, a multicomponent lithiophilic alloy (Li-Al-Sc alloy) was investigated and a Li-Cu half-cell with high Coulomb efficiency (CE) up to 98% after 250 cycles at 2 mA cm(-2) and a capacity of 1 mAh cm(-2) by depositing Al-Sc alloying layer was demonstrated.
