Developing the simple, robust, sensitive and cost-effective method for the detection of thiosemicarbazide (TSC) and Hg2+ is of great significance. Herein we developed TSC as an effective coreactant of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and have found that Hg2+ can inhibit the ECL intensity of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) /TSC system dramatically. Therefore, the developed Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)/TSC ECL system was applied for the detection of TSC and Hg2+ with the linear range of 0.1 mu M to 1000 mu M and 0.5 to 60 mu M (LOD = 0.03 mu M), respectively. For practical sample detection, the detection recovery of the amount of TSC and Hg2+ in the lake water ranges from 97% to 101.1% and 92% to 101%, respectively. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
