Abstract
This work concludes the synthesis of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) using filter paper as a synthon for cellulose nanocrystal. Furthermore, this nanomaterial was used for the synthesis of new nanohybrid (CNCcefixime) by the reaction of CNC with cefixime. CNC and its derivative were characterized using FTIR, XRD and SEM. The characterization results prove that cefixime was successfully functionalized on the surface of CNC. Moreover, the biological activity of the prepared nanomaterials were examined against four bacteria strains (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Klebsilla sp). The results prove that CNC have no biological activity while CNC-cefixime shows an ability for the inhibition of Escherichia coli, staphylococcus epidermidis and klebsilla sp. with no effect against Staphylococcus aureus.(c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
