Abstract
•A new probe TR-V based on tryptanthrin has been synthesized and characterized.•TR-V shows selective colorimetry and only responses to Cu2+.•The complex of TR-V-Cu2+ was characterized by MS, IR and UV–Vis.•TR-V was selected for the analysis of Cu2+ in the studied real samples.
