Abstract
Stromal derived factor-1 (SDF1) is a potent chemokine that attracts stem cell activation and has inherent pro-angiogenic, anti-apoptotic, and neurotrophic effects. We have previously shown that SDF1 penile injections improve erectile function following bilateral cavernous nerve injury (BCNI). SDF1 enhances neurite outgrowth in the major pelvic ganglion (MPG) and associated with upregulation of neurotophin protein expression. The aim of the current study is to further investigate the impact of SDF-1 on penile morphology and stem cell pathways activation using expression assays following BCNI.
