Synthesis, characterization and in vitro evaluation of a gelatin-based platform with antioxidant and nitric oxide releasing property

•A gelatin-based system with NO releasing and antioxidant properties is reported.•It will be beneficial in conditions where both NO and antioxidants are required.•NO released may react with surrounding ROSs leading to serious complications.•The reported system will overcome complications associated with NO/ROSs interplay.•It will hold great potential in the field of therapeutics and tissue engineering.
