Performance Evaluation of AODV Routing Protocol by Simulation and Testbed Implementation

In this study, we evaluated the performance of AODV routing protocol in ad hoc network by using test bed and simulation method. We also compare the evaluation results obtained from simulation and test bed. Evaluation was conducted to know and understand the performance of ad hoc network in certain conditions and scenarios. In testbed method, we used laptop as a node to implement ad hoc network. We did two types of evaluation, such as: evaluation of the availability of ad hoc wireless networks in various distances and evaluation of the performance of multi hop ad hoc network. Each testing was carried out on different circumstances and different scenarios. From the simulation and testbed we obtain data such as throughput and delay as parameters of quality of services. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the AODV protocol worked well when the distances up to 150 meters and the number of hops up to 4 hops. The results obtained from simulation and test bed showed the same trend, but simulation results were better than test bed.
