Cesium manganese chloride: Stable lead-free perovskite from bulk to single layer

•Prediction of a brand new stable perovskite crystal structure that has never reported before.•It was shown that even the ultra-thin forms of the material have a stable structure.•The proposed material is lead-free, unlike those frequently studied in the literature.•The material has a magnetic ground state which is promising for novel device applications.
