Academic Dishonesty in Current Years Comparison (2018 to 2020): The Malaysian Higher Education Evidence

Academic dishonesty has become a global problem, challenging the academic world from time to time, asreported in worldwide findings. The issues of academic dishonesty are problems that continue to afflict the highereducation’s institutions across the globe. The aim of this study is to provide some insight into the activities of academicdishonesty among higher education students in public universities in Malaysia. A survey conducted on 420 students in2018, 405 students in 2019, and 275 students in 2020. Data were analyzed using version 20 of the SPSS to detect thevalidity and reliability of the findings. The results of the three years\u0027 study show that the level of academic dishonestyamong students of higher learning institutions in Malaysia is still at a moderate level. In 2018 and 2019 it is at the level of25% (moderate level) while in 2020 (24%) it is also at the level of moderate overall. The data shows the most dominant orhighest thing for the three years studied which is \"Copied a few sentences from a site on the internet without citing them\".In 2018 67% of respondents responded that they did this \"many times\" which is 67%, while in 2019 as many as 45% and2020 as many as 42% of respondents gave the same response. These outcomes could be used by stakeholders andacademic institutions to increase the ethical awareness of plagiarism and academic dishonesty among students. However,further research and academic practices are tentatively suggested.
