•Cats with street access are 2.54 times more likely to have sporotrichosis.•In sporotrichosis, avoiding street access is more important than just neutering cats.•Euthanasia and death are the most common outcome of sporotrichosis infected cats.•There is no relation between spatial distribution of animal sporotrichosis and HVI.
