摘要
Homeoxygen therapy is prescribed to over 1.5 million Americans at an annual cost of more than $2.9 billion, with cost increasing by 12-13% per year (2, 3). An evidence-based clinical practice guideline on home oxygen therapy for adults with chronic lung disease was published in 2020 by a multidisciplinary panel of experts and a patient representative (1). A comprehensive systematic review of the literature with resulting data synthesis was performed to address the key questions for clinical recommendations. This summary provides key takeaway points for practicing clinicians. The guideline has different implications for patients, clinicians, and policy-makers (Table 1). Clinicians should always consider unique individual clinical and social circumstances when applying these guideline recommendations to the management plan of patients to ensure appropriate care. The guideline formulates seven key recommendations, which are categorized under four themes: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease (ILD), liquid oxygen (LOX), and education and safety. A standardized terminology for different types of home oxygen therapy was included (Table 2).
