Selection of Intra Prediction Tools for Fast AV1 Encoding

This paper compares coding performance of the intra prediction tools in the AV1 encoder developed by Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) in order to make the AV1 encoding faster. Firstly, an intra prediction tool Off-test is designed to have clear understanding on the relationship between coding efficiency and time complexity of each intra prediction tool. Afterwards, a selection of intra prediction tools is suggested differently for natural videos and screen content videos to simplify the existing AV1 encoder with negligible coding loss.
