Rapid analysis of phenyl isothiocyanate derivatives of amino acids present in Czech meads

•Fast and easy derivatization procedure of amino acids by PITC agent was developed.•Rapid separation of PITC derivates by HPLC with UV/VIS detection was optimized.•The method was successfully applied to samples of Czech meads.•Obtained results were compared with Harmonized spectrophotometric method.•The promising results pave the way for new related projects.
