•Astrogliosis has been implicated in neurodegenerative pathological cascades.•Higher levels of an astrocytic marker, GFAP, were associated with worse memory.•Negative links between GFAP and memory were not accounted for by Ab42, Tau, or NfL.•Higher GFAP was associated with lower white matter integrity in the temporal lobe.
