Fretting behavior evolution of steel wires with helical structure after adding ore particles in lubricating grease

•The fretting wear of steel wire after adding ore particles in grease was explored.•The friction coefficient for the mixed grease decreases with increasing the cycles.•Wear coefficient for the mixed grease decreases with increasing the loading force.•After adding ore particles, the wear between steel wires becomes more serious.
