Abstract
Background: Stroke is an abrupt interruption of brain \ncirculation that constitutes a neurological emergency. \nAphasia is a language disorder caused by stroke. It can \naffect patients’ reading, writing, comprehension and expression. \nThe aim of the study is to find out if the use of \nthe latest portable technologies such as tablets, computers \nand mobile phones can help to improve the rehabilitation \nof patients with aphasia. \nMethods: A literature review has been carried out on \nthe main databases; Pubmed, Scopus and Cinahl, of articles \nin english and spanish published between june and \ndecember 2019 following the PRISMA methodology. \nResults: Sixty-two articles were included in which \nthe use of technologies alongside traditional rehabilitation \ntherapies showed that might improve the recovery of \naphasic patients. Most studies have a sample size of less \nthan fifty patients (21.7%), with only three publications \nhaving a sample size of more than 150 patients (1.86%). \nConclusions: The review shows that the use of digital \napplications might improve aphasia rehabilitation in \npatients who have suffered a stroke, but more studies are \nneeded due to the small sample size of those conducted \nso far and to explore whether that improvement hold up \nover time.
