•We are one the first to study attitudes towards prudence in adolescence.•We explored adolescents’ demographic profile in relation to decision-making under uncertainty.•Adolescents are ambiguity averse and prudent, despite being risk neutral on average.•In addition to studying gender and age, cognitive and non-cognitive abilities provide a more refined description of risk preferences, ambiguity preferences, and prudence.
