摘要
Introduction: Syphilis, caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, with sexual and vertical transmission, is responsible for congenital syphilis. It stands out for its significant numbers and for being a preventable disease, with low-cost and straightforward treatment. The objective of this manuscript is to analyze the trend of congenital syphilis in the state of Bahia from 2008-2017, relating the data with the implementation of government actions on maternal and child health. Methods: This is a retrospective, descriptive, observational study, which analyzed the trend of congenital syphilis cases in the state of by means of official documents. Results: Among individuals diagnosed with congenital syphilis in 2008, 69.5% of the mothers had prenatal care, while in 2017 this rate increased to 78%. During this period, only 4.2% of pregnant diagnosed with syphilis received the treatment adequately, while 77.3% did not or did inappropriately. Treatment of partners in this period corresponded to only 12%. Conclusion: The significant number of cases associated with the severe consequences of this infection are a warning to the quality of care provided to women, especially in prenatal care. There is a need for improvement in primary care coverage, available tests, and remedies for treatment, as well as treatment of partners.
