•Two-step transplantations were associated with >60% 3-year disease-free survival in patients with lymphoma.•Rates of relapse and significant graft-versus-host disease were low using this approach.•Earlier allogenic transplantation may improve outcomes in patients with diffuse large B cell lymphoma.
