Management of splenic injury has changed dramatically over the past decades with a strong emphasis on spleen preservation rather than splenectomy. Although various surgical techniques are available for spleen preservation, the result has been less satisfactory because of a significant risk of intraoperative hemorrhage encountered frequently during the procedure. Over the last few years, radiofrequency (RF) energy has been used in liver surgery to ablate unresectable liver meoplasms. The current study reports a new technique for spleen preservation using RF.
