Organic salt-assisted pyrolysis for preparation of porous carbon from cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin: New insight from structure evolution

•Porous carbons were prepared from main biopolymers via organic salt approach.•Component- and temperature-dependent structure evolutions were investigated.•Hydrogen bonding affects the dispersion of porogen on biomass char.•Enhanced pore tailoring was achieved for all biomass components.•Surface reconstruction was achieved by dispersion and charring of organic salt.
