Modeling of crack propagation with the quasi-static material point method

•The quasi-static material point method is extended to simulate crack behaviors.•The proposed method circumvents tedious mesh refinement and complex shape function compared with other traditional methods.•The direction of crack propagation is not restricted by the mesh in the proposed method.
