The variety, terroir, and harvest types affect the yield and the phenolic and sterolic profiles of hemp seed oil

•Hemp seed oil was extracted from 22 commercial cultivars.•Oil content increases with increasing test weight of the seeds.•Antioxidant compounds in hemp seed oil have a limited effect in preventing its rancidity.•The phytochemical profiles are affected by genotype, environment, and harvesting technique.
