Production of a novel recombinant brown spider hyaluronidase in baculovirus-infected insect cells

•Recombinant brown spider hyaluronidase LiHyal2 isoform is a glycosidase enzyme.•LiHyal2 is the first recombinant brown spider enzyme produced by insect cells.•LiHyal2 is post-translationally modified by the addition of high mannose N-linked carbohydrates.•LiHyal2 shares catalytic and sugar binding residues of bee and human hyaluronidases.•LiHyal2 is a spreading factor and increases vessel permeability.
