摘要
We have instituted a dynamic method of formative assessment based on low-stakes multiple-choice quizzes that combine individual student accountability with the benefits of collaborative group learning. The group component of the quiz utilizes IF-AT scratch-off cards (similar to lottery tickets) with covered answer boxes hiding the one correct answer. Students discuss the questions together, agree on a collective answer, and then scratch off the corresponding box to get instant feedback. Multiple attempts are possible for each question, with each round requiring further discussion in order to converge to the correct answer. Students find the group interactions highly engaging and the suspense of uncovering the hidden answer boxes quite stimulating. Upon completion of the quiz, all correct answers are revealed, and each student knows his/her score in the exercise. This feedback loop, coupled with the group discussion and self-correction option, provides a powerful learning experience for the students.
