Abstract
ZSM-5 (Zeolite Socony Mobil-5) waste, the spent product of ZSM-5, was directly dumped into ponds in the past which causes both environmental degradation and resource loss. Herein, this study investigated the effects of the addition of this waste on the mechanical properties and reaction products of fly ash-based autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). The reaction products of AAC were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, Thermal gravimetric and Scanning electron microscope. Results demonstrate that the addition of ZSM-5 waste reduces per unit weight remarkably due to its lower bulk density and unique foaming ability. With the addition of ZSM-5 waste increased to 15%, the bulk density and compressive strength of the as-prepared AAC are 516 g/m(3) and 3.1 MPa, respectively. In addition, the replacement of fly ash by ZSM-5 waste has promoted the formation of tobermorite and part of the needle-like and grass-like tobermorite is replaced by lath-like tobermorite.
