The magnitude of depressive disorder and associated factors among prisoners in Ethiopia; implications for nursing care: A systematic review and meta-analysis

•Pooled prevalence of depression among inmates in Ethiopia were 44.45(95%CI: 40.28,48.61).•The factors that were associated with depression among inmates were age presence of chronic diseases, history of Khat chewing, history of smoking, history of suicidal attempt, and not having paid job in prison.•Thus, Prison health should be strengthened by stake holders giving due focus particularly to those inmates who are prone to the problem.
