•Glycine-modified Fe/Cu-layered double hydroxides (GFC) were prepared.•With clear boundaries, GFC1 had an excellent structure for adsorption.•GFC1 has high capacity and selectivity on the adsorption of As (V).•GFC1 shows excellent regeneration ability on the adsorption of As (V).
