A Compact Frequency Reconfigurable Pifa Antenna For Heterogeneous Applications

A simple printed frequency reconfigurable microstrip strip PIFA antenna using two PIN diodes is designed. The presented antenna has a compact size of 44 x 14 mm(2). By adjusting the different on/off states of PIN diodes inserted in radiation element, the proposed antenna resonates at six different frequencies (GSM850/900, GLONASS 1616, DCS 1800, PCS 1900, and UMTS 2100). The antenna consists of F-shape radiation element with a ground plane mounted on FR4-substrate. The proposed antenna is fabricated, and measurement results show good agreement with simulated results. The measurement results show that different states of PIN diodes resonate the proposed antenna at GSM 850/900 MHz and UMTS 2100 MHz frequency bands. The antenna also shows dipole-like and omnidirectional radiation pattern for different frequencies.
