Efficacy and action mechanisms of a Chinese herbal formula on experimental models of atopic dermatitis

Shi Zhen formula (SZF) containing baicalin (4.92%), berberine (2.90%), paeoniflorin (0.26%) and phillyrin (0.10%) could inhibit DNCB induced Th2 cell predominance through suppressing gene expression of Th2 cytokines (IL-4, IL-13 and IL-31) and restricting the production of IgE and histamine in serum. And SZF could also up-regulate the protein expression of filaggrin (FLG), involucrin (IVL) and loricrin (LOR) to restore the skin barrier.
