A global profiling strategy using comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography coupled with dual-mass spectrometry platforms: Chemical analysis of a multi-herb Chinese medicine formula as a case study

•A 2DLC/dual-MS platform-based chemical profiling strategy was proposed for complex systems.•CSH C18 × Phenyl-Hexyl was used to analyze an 11-herb Chinese medicine formula XFK.•2DLC/MS (542 peaks) improved the detection capability of 2DLC/UV (131 peaks).•108 compounds were identified using 2DLC/dd-MS2 in an untargeted manner.•151 additional compounds were detected by 2DLC/NL/PRE-MS in a targeted manner.
