矿区位于小兴安岭-张广才岭铁、有色金属成矿带,五星—西林—郎乡铁铅锌钼成矿亚带的中段,地质构造环境优越,具有成矿的潜力,尤其是钼多金属成矿潜力巨大,其与岩浆侵入活动、构造作用密切.通过1:2万土壤地球化学测量,找出异常位置,进而利用槽探和钻探工程,确定矿化蚀变带,钼矿体和矿化体,对区域成矿有指导作用.
