Introduction: Baveno I to Baveno VII … and Beyond

Between 1990 and 2015, six international consensus workshops on portal hypertension have been held under the name of Baveno. This chapter introduces the seventh Baveno workshop by summarizing the attendance to the Baveno I to VI workshops, the publications derived from the six previous workshops, and the impact of the Baveno consensus in the medical literature and on clinical practice. The chapter concludes by describing the foundation of the Baveno Cooperation, which has been acknowledged as an EASL research group.
