Abstract
Synopsis The Cleitichean Beag intrusion of central Lewis, assigned by Dearnley to the suite of pre-Laxfordian minor basic intrusions in the Lewisian of the Outer Hebrides, has yielded whole-rock K–Ar ages giving an average value of 2440±60 m.y. This body has not suffered obvious deformation or metamorphism and lies in an area where effects of Laxfordian regeneration are relatively slight; there is no evidence to suggest that excess argon is present. The date obtained is taken to be close to the original time of intrusion.
