蕹菜俗称空心菜,为旋花科的一年或多年生蔓生植物,原产我国热带的多雨地区,热带亚洲均有分布.蕹菜耐高温高湿、抗台风暴雨、病虫害较少,生长快,采收期长,产量也高,适应性强.我国长江流域及以南地区普遍栽培,采收期从4月开始可延续到11月,是夏季高温极为重要的绿叶蔬菜.
