Rapid Construction Of The Tricyclic Core Of Annotinine Hydrate

A rapid construction of the tricyclic scaffold of annotinine hydrate has been accomplished in only four steps from conveniently available starting materials. This short synthesis featured an efficient Lewis acid-catalyzed Diels-Alder reaction to construct the 4a, 8a-cis-hydroquinoline skeleton and a 5-exo-trig radical cyclization reaction to assemble the gamma-butylrolactone motif.
