摘要
•Metal oxides reduction gives H/OH and □/O2 pairs by dehydroxylation or dehydration proceses.•H/OH are hydrogenation sites for metal oxides as catalysts or as metal catalyst supports.•□/O2− are H2 receiving sites for metal oxides or interface active sites for metal catalysts.•Acid-base properties or metal cation electron structure govern metal oxides reactivity.•Support or metal phase nature determine reaction mechanisms and reactivity for metal catalysts.
