Changing the time intervals between cisplatin cycles alter its ototoxic side effect

•Slowing down cisplatin dosing is a possible method to minimize ototoxicity.•Three cycles of cisplatin were separated by different rest intervals in mice.•Increasing the rest interval from 10 to 17 days decreased threshold shift.•Increasing the rest interval to 87 days dramatically reduced threshold shifts.
