Assessment of a failure prediction model in the European energy sector: A multicriteria discrimination approach with a PROMETHEE based classification

•We apply the M.H.DIS method for credit risk assessment of energy companies;•We extend the M.H.DIS model development with the PROMETHEE II method;•Energy firms lacking of CRAs’ judgement are evaluated with the proposed model;•We provide a robust discrimination model in terms of accuracy rate.
