Abstract
This article explores ways to further improve the performance of an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) gas pump operating in a square channel. To this end, the present pump uses electrode assemblies that are grouped in two and are mounted on the two opposite walls facing each other. The emitting electrodes are flush mounted on the channel walls so that the air flow produced is similar to that of a wall jet. The electrode configuration with three emitting electrodes on each wall is investigated for its effectiveness in enhancing the volume flow rate as well as reducing the power requirement. The results obtained are compared with those reported in the previous studies with various electrode configurations to determine which performs the best. Through the performance assessment of various pump designs, the present results have provided important information for practical applications of EHD technology.
