Galectin-3 Inhibition With Modified Citrus Pectin in Hypertension

•Gal-3 is a beta-galactoside–binding lectin that regulates inflammation and fibrosis and is highly predictive of heart failure events and mortality.•In a randomized placebo-controlled trial of MCP, Gal-3 inhibition did not influence collagen markers, echocardiographic measures, or vascular function.•Baseline Gal-3 levels were higher in women compared with men.•Consistent with previous studies, higher Gal-3 levels were associated with diabetes and reduced GFR.
