Abstract

•Smartphone MMS has high accuracy approaching that of PACS workstation in the classification of ankle fractures.•MMS was less reliable than PACS in guiding management decisions especially for some fixation choices.•Smartphone use in ankle fracture classification is supported by this study.•MMS is less accurate than PACS in determining ankle fracture treatment algorithms and is not supported by this study.
