Electrophysiological and behavioral responses of Asian and European honeybees to pear flower volatiles
Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology(2021)
Abstract
•Honeybees are weakly attracted to pear flowers, limiting pollination.•We determined the floral volatile compounds from three pear cultivars.•Five substances elicited strong electroantennogram responses in two bee species.•Neither bee species showed positive taxis to these volatiles.•Flower-scent sugar syrup feeding and Saturation pollination may be needed to achieve pollination in pear orchards.
