Pulmonary metastasectomy: does it make a difference?

Introduction: Proponents of pulmonary metastasectomy will site data, quoting a 50% (+/-5%) survival rate at 5 years, but an argument can be made that resection of these metastases does not impact upon prognosis. A randomised control trial developed to answer this question failed to recruit enough patients to show a meaningful difference in survival. We examined the outcomes of patients at our centre following pulmonary metastasectomy.
