WiFi-based Device-free Vehicle Speed Measurement Using Fast Phase Correction MUSIC Algorithm

With the rapid development of intelligent transportation, the new internet of vehicles will provide a ubiquitous wireless connection for vehicles in the future. The introduction of MIMO and OFDM technologies in the new Internet of Vehicles has improved the performance of the network, and at the same time made the network have the ability of environmental awareness. Using this new technology, a device-free vehicle speed estimation method based on the fast phase correction MUSIC algorithm is proposed. Firstly, a vehicle speed estimation model is proposed based on the angle-of-arrival of the incident signal. Secondly, a fast phase correction algorithm is proposed to solve the phase anomaly caused by clock non-synchronization in WiFi devices. The MUSIC algorithm of super-resolution angle-of-arrival estimation is used to estimate the angle of vehicle, and then the speed estimation is realized. Finally, based on the Intel 5300 WiFi NIC, an experimental platform is built to verify the proposed vehicle speed estimation algorithm. The experimental results show that the speed estimation error is less than 1.6 km/h.
