Abstract
Super refractory Status epilepticus is traditionally associated with high morbidity and mortality. We present a case of focal super-refractory status epilepticus who had the Responsive Neuro Simulation System (RNS) implanted emergently. Surgical resection was not an option to help reduce the patient’s morbidity and mortality, and he did not respond to multiple trials of antiepileptic and benzodiazepine infusions. We implanted an RNS to allow for the extubating of the patient. After successful seizure burden reduction, patient returned to his pre-status baseline functional state. We present this case to help add to the growing body of literature for surgical approaches to manage super-refractory status epilepticus.
