Enhancing oxidation resistance of Cu during repeated melting by the in-situ formation of protective oxide films

•A coating-free method is used to improve the Cu oxidation resistance under melting.•Pb addition in-situ converts to a reticular structure as protective films.•Pb films locally consume the oxygen and impede oxygen diffusion to the Cu matrix.•Lower contact resistance and temperature rise are achieved after repeated melting.
