Evaluation Of A Novel Brain Pet Scanner Consisted Of Lyso Scintillation Detectors And Silicon Photomultipliers

143 Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the performance of a novel brain PET scanner, Madiclab primate PET, through dynamic imaging of rats and monkeys.\n Methods: The PET scanner was constructed with LYSO detector arrays and Silicon photomultipliers (SiPM), with a detector ring in 30 cm diameter and 32 cm axial field of view (FOV). The spatial resolution was measured using a point source and capillary tubes. A variety of animal imaging studies were performed to evaluate the imaging performance of the PET scanner. Two normal monkeys underwent dynamic imaging after intravenous injection of 44.3 MBq 11C-CFT and 19.7 MBq 68Ga-3PRGD2, respectively. The 11C-CFT images were compared with a 5-min scan using Siemens Biograph 64 human PET/CT at 25 min and a 5-min scan using Sino PoleStar m660 human TOF PET/CT at 45 min for comparison. Two rats underwent dynamic PET scans after administration of 17.4 MBq and 4.2 MBq 18F-Al-3PRGD2, respecitively. Data were reconstructed using MLEM algorithm for Madiclab primate PET.\n Results: The spatial resolution was 2.96 mm at the center of the FOV. High quality images were obtained with a 0.97-mm cubic voxel for the rats and a 1.44-mm cubic voxel for the monkeys, even for the reconstructed frames in 1 second and with low dose to 4.2 MBq in a rat and 19.7 MBq in a monkey. The reconstructed 5-min image during 35-40 min after injection seemed to be better than that obtained during 25-30 min using Siemens Biograph 64 PET/CT. The reconstructed 5-min images during 60-65 min and 70-75 min after injection seemed to be better than that obtained during 45-50 min using Sino PoleStar m660 TOF PET/CT.\n Conclusions: This study preliminarily demonstrated the effectiveness of a novel PET scanner, Madiclab primate PET, in preclinical research use.
